Kaelen Varn Derrazi rose to prominence in the political vacuum left by the collapse of Ramiva’s oligarchic Directorate. A former orator and leader of the Concord Initiative, a popular movement pushing for planetary unity, environmental reform, and equitable resource access, Kaelen was known for giving electrifying speeches from the upper decks, rallying citizens with words like fire in the night.
When the Directorate splintered in a series of rapid defections, Kaelen was positioned—through a mix of careful planning, genuine popular support, and a surprising level of logistical competence—to step in and form a provisional government. Backed quietly (but firmly) by Marquis Calvon Terik dar-Trin, the Imperium allowed the new regime to solidify under Kaelen’s leadership so long as Ramiva remained nominally loyal.
Rather than adopt the traditional titles of state or noble standing, Kaelen revived an ancient term from Ramivan settler organization: High Speaker. This was the title once given to the person assigned to speak to the Ling-Standard Products development overlords. Its revival signaled both his role as the voice of the people and his refusal to bow to legacy power structures. In private, some Imperials still whisper the word “dictator” — but to the people of Ramiva, he is their voice and their choice.
A lifelong fan of off-world culture, Kaelen is a passionate devotee of Rally Owens. His personal quarters contain a rare, signed concert poster from a Mora show in 1093, and he has been known to quote Rally’s lyrics in speeches, much to the bemusement of the older generation. Rumor has it he once used Rally's song *Fall Into the Spin* as coded signal music during a critical strike against Directorate holdouts.
Now in power, High Speaker Derrazi walks a tightrope: maintaining the support of the people, managing a fragile economy, and keeping the Imperium close — but not too close. And if Rally Owens ever sets foot on Ramiva, he’ll be welcomed like a prophet returned.
