History

Grymar’s father, Darryon, was an elf of Mierani Forest entranced by the beauty of the human woman, Corina, who would be his mother. They had a brief affair, and Grymar was the result of that dalliance. He were raised alone by his mother in Riddleport. Even without his elven heritage, it was obvious the young boy was different. His golden eyes and blond hair had speculation he was an Aasimar, but Corina knew differently; she knew the truth.

Four generations ago, Grymar’s great-great-grandmother, Ilumina the Wise, was a citizen of Hermea, the island nation ruled by the Golden Dragon Mengkare. She was a powerful wizard who caught the eye of the dragon and like Grymar’s parents, there was an offspring of the union. Her knowledge of Mengkare’s plans made her fear for her child, so she fled northeast to Varisia, first to Magnimar, but then to Riddleport a with an adventurer, Camlo Mazonn, also on the run. With him she settled down as a mother and wife of a fisherman. The family kept a low profile. Their child was another beautiful girl, with platinum blond hair but her mother’s dark brown ones. This was Grymar’s great-grandmother, Lennor.

Lennor lived a quiet life growing up in Riddleport and married a Magnimar merchant, Orchilo Chezzo, who’s eye she had caught. They did well for together in what passes for “middle class” in Magnimar. When Lennor’s mother died, she received a inheritance from her: A medallion, built from the scale of a golden dragon, intricately carved with arcane runes. It came with a note that it should be passed down until one with the dragon’s blood is born. And, so, it came to Grymar’s grandmother, Voileta, then his mother, and then to him, the first male born in the line.

In adolescence, the young sorcerer’s powers started to manifest. Golden scales grew on his face and body but he remained as handsome as ever. Concerned that the still living Dragon might realize who he was, his mother moved back to Riddleport, where he finished growing up. In the shadow of the ancient ruins, Grymar has grown fascinated with the past. He has traveled to Sandpoint in search of knowledge.
