Amaar Kurrn spent his life growing up looking for more adventure than he had. Aslan within the Imperium tended to have the cultural norms of the Imperium. Still, Amaar wanted to test his mettle against real foes. He applied for the Marine Academy and was just accepted, with his acceptance message just days before classes started. The young Aslan excelled. While he found himself at odds with a professor during his time, Amaar graduated with Honors and was Commissioned as a fresh lieutenant in the Imperial Marines.
Amaar was assigned to the Five Sisters subsector, far from home. To his fortune, his station was at Karin, a world with a sizeable Aslan population on its nation-state of Apocalypto. The young Aslan was able to interact with others of his kind, and found a mate, named Keah Kuilosea. Keah was and is a loyal wife, understanding her husband’s military lifestyle and long absences.
During this time, Amaar was learning his craft. With the help of Scout Rutgers van de Ross, Amaar was able to lead his unit to a smashing victory behind enemy lines, letting the main assault attack unimpeded from attack by air. This put Amaar directly in command of a company dealing with terrorists, the Lighted Way, on Mirriam. Unfortunately, the intelligence on the terrorists was faulty. The whole mission was a cluster from the start. The dictator of Mirriam asked for Imperial intervention in what should have been a local matter, but he did not want to be seen putting down what he saw as an insurrection. Amaar, and much of his unit were captured. Amaar was seriously injured in the attack. For weeks they were held by the terrorists until that group was defeated. Amaar was shipped back to Karin onboard the Raum Zauberstab where he became friends with the crewmate Tupper Vilantes.
After his recovery paid for by the Marines, Captain Amaar found he was discharged. However, he still wished to serve. The Navy was more than happy to recruit an experienced officer and promptly brought him in as an officer. Amarr found he was just as well suited for the Navy. It was around this time, since he was often at home, he had a daughter, Leiha. Back in action in the field, Amaar was given the job of flying Marines to their mission, a slot the Marines appreciated, even if they ribbed him for being in the “soft” navy.
As a former Marine, Amaar found himself promoted and serving as a head guard for a noble on board his ship. This was a non-traditional time for Amaar, but he excelled at the work.
Finally a Commander, Amaar was second in command on an Imperial Cruiser. Older than most commanders, Amaar was an asset to his Captain. He made sure the ship ran tightly. So tightly, in fact, he was able to detect an attempt at sabotage of the ship by suspected agents of Thyrndi Dumakair. It was never proved they were working for that company, but the sabotage could have thrown the contract their way. Regardless, Amaar knew there was one of the old terrorists, Jin Zhong, someplace, looking for vengeance. Even though he was promoted to Captain, Amaar felt running his own ship would be too high profile. He moved his family back to Apocalypto and decided to leave the Navy.
To keep the heat from his family Amaar wanted to be away from his wife and daughter for a while, knowing they could be safer with her family. Amaar had little idea what to do, until he was invited by an old friend to explore crewing the Solar Phoenix.
