Captain Taychar is a disenchanted former soldier who left the Talden infantry and decided to be a Mercenary. He took his company Sergeant, Cardello Sulsas with him. The two were no longer interested in engaging in whatever misuse of the army was going to make the current noble leader richer. As a patriot, Taychar had enough. It was time to leave the corrupt military behind and enrich himself. Taychar has already risen as high as he could without a title but was able to pay his way out of his active commission, and is officially retired with a small pension that goes to his younger sister, Sella.
